For Indians: Pros and Cons of living in Germany

Pros for Indians in Germany:

• Indian community is smaller when compared to US, UK or Australia. Hence bonding between two new Indians is lot easier here. In other countries, social circles between Indians are closed after a certain age and it's hard to enter any social circle.

• Extremely organised and disciplined life. No need to worry about school fees, hospital expenses, etc. Everything is covered.

• People who have deep thinking attitude and are research oriented, will enjoy German life to the core.

• Many luxuries in Germany are actually affordable even for a normal middle-class person. For e.g., horse riding, swimming, Golf, etc.

• A balanced life and high-quality time with family and friends are possible in Germany.

• Job title with "Developer" in Germany and "Developer" in USA are entirely different. German companies have vertical division of responsibilities. This means you have more decision-making powers; you have authority in your role, and you define how it works.

• Cross cultural communication between India and Germany is an extremely tough job to master, but it can do wonders, if you are a communication expert.

Cons for Indians in Germany:

• Indian community is smaller when compared to US, UK, or Australia.

• In Germany, Germans speak German, not English by default. They will be able to speak English, but not all.

• Becoming a millionaire, owning a house, buying kilos of Gold are not the norm of the Society. You might feel difficulties to talk to fellow Indians in other countries because your priorities have changed after living here for a while.

• Becoming a millionaire is a tough job.

• Heavily disciplined people and society. This might generate lot of irritation, as it is seen as lack of flexibility by Indians.

• Rules are everything. They are not for fun which are followed by boring people.

• Being perfect and enthusiastic in your job is essential. Money is not going to be the solo factor. Changing jobs frequently for hikes will generate a bad impression.

• Sweet white lies are dangerous in Germany and DO NOT use them to be nice. It is suicidal.
